# Fisheye Effect

Turn a portrait into a close-up fisheye selfie with strong barrel distortion, then check the face, the small features and the frame edges.

## Fisheye effect: the same portrait before and after

One reference photo and the generated fisheye portrait made from it. The result uses the template's fixed 3:4 ratio.

### What stayed

The recipe asks the model to keep the person's identity, hairstyle and expression. Put the reference and the result side by side at the same scale and compare the eyes and mouth. If those cues survive the curve, it is still the same person.

### What changed

The face becomes a large central close-up with strong barrel distortion, and the surroundings curve away from it. This is an intended look, not a lens correction, and there is no focal-length or strength control. The background and crop at the edges can change too.

### What to check

Distortion is intended; structural confusion is not. Count teeth, fingers and glasses arms, because a generated close-up can add or merge them, and look for hair or ears cut at the frame edge. For a profile image, test the crop in its real circle or square.

## Where a fisheye portrait fits

Three common uses. Choose a fisheye portrait only where the playful look fits; captions and exact wording stay in your own layout.

### Playful profile image

*3:4 · Profile*

Check a small profile placement in the real circle or square crop, because a circle can remove the curved edges that make the effect obvious. Keep the full generated image and make a separate crop for the account, so the original curved frame stays available for other uses. Check the eyes, glasses and teeth at the smallest display size, and pick a calmer candidate if the expression turns ambiguous.

### Private message

*3:4 · Message*

A fisheye selfie can be a visual joke between friends, as long as the subject is comfortable sharing it. Check that the person is still recognizable and the expression has not turned hostile or embarrassing. Add a short caption saying it is an AI fisheye-style version, so no one reads it as a real camera photo. Ask the person in the picture first if the message goes beyond a private chat.

### Social graphic panel

*3:4 · Social*

Use the portrait as one panel and set the headline in editable text beside it. A large distorted face already draws the eye, so keep the background simple and the text high-contrast. Preview the crop at the feed or grid size, and keep enough of the curved frame to explain the effect. Check the same panel on a phone-sized preview, because the distorted face can look very different when it is small.

## How to apply a fisheye effect to a portrait

Upload a portrait, check the fixed output, then review the face and the frame edges before you download.

### 1. Upload one portrait

Add one JPG, PNG or WebP image up to 20 MB. Choose one person with visible eyes, nose, mouth and hairstyle, and no hand across the face. A group photo gives no way to choose which face dominates, and a face turned far to the side gives the recipe little to enlarge. Use a photo you own or have permission to edit.

### 2. Check the fixed settings

There is no style, ratio, focal-length or distortion selector; the panel shows the fixed output, one 3:4 PNG at HD from [Nano Banana Pro](https://potto.ai/nano-banana-pro.md). Crop your photo first if the framing matters.

### 3. Generate and compare

Each fisheye effect result costs 45 credits, shown on Generate before you confirm. When the portrait is done, compare the reference portrait with the result, review the central face and check the frame edges, then download it.

## What the fisheye effect template does to your portrait

A close-up fisheye selfie look with strong barrel distortion.

### One person with eyes, nose and mouth in view

Upload one portrait with visible eyes, nose, mouth and hairstyle and no hand across the face. The recipe asks the model to keep identity, hairstyle and expression, but a face turned far to the side gives it little to enlarge.

- One photo per run, up to 20 MB
- Avoid group photos: you cannot choose the face

*The reference: identity and expression come from here.*

### A large central face with curved surroundings

Every fisheye portrait uses the same strong curve: the nose and eyes grow toward the lens and the edges of the scene bend away. Because the curve is fixed, there is no gentler setting, and the background and the crop at the edges can change too.

- The same fisheye look on every run
- No distortion amount to set

*The result: one 3:4 fisheye close-up.*

### Check the frame edges and small features

Look at the small features first: a generated close-up can add or merge teeth, fingers and glasses arms, and hair or ears can be cut by the curved edge. For a profile image, test the crop in its real circle or square before you post it.

- Distortion is intended; structural confusion is not
- Run the same photo again if a feature breaks

## Fisheye Effect FAQs

### What is a fisheye effect?

A fisheye effect is a wide-angle look with curved lines and exaggerated perspective, as if the photo were taken through a very short lens held close. This page turns your photo into a fisheye portrait: a close-up with the face large in the center and the surroundings bending away from it. It is a creative treatment, not a measurement of a real lens, and it does not promise natural facial proportions.

### Is barrel distortion the same as a correction tool?

Barrel distortion bends straight lines outward in the visual appearance of an image. This preset intentionally adds a strong version of that look. It does not correct an existing distorted photograph or offer optical calibration. Use a photo application with lens-correction controls for a correction task.

### Which photo works best for a fisheye portrait?

Use one portrait with visible eyes, nose, mouth and hairstyle, and no hand or object across the face. A heavy shadow, a group shot or an already extreme camera angle gives the model less to work from. A sharp frontal photo with a relaxed expression is the safest start. Use a photo you own or may edit, in JPG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB.

### Can I set the focal length or distortion amount?

No. There is no focal-length or distortion-strength control; the source portrait guides the person and expression, and the recipe supplies the same close-up curve every time. For a gentler curve, describe it in the [AI image generator](https://potto.ai/ai-image-generator.md), which is a separate request.

### What makes a portrait result unsuitable?

Reject a result when the distortion creates incoherent eyes, glasses, teeth, hands, or a substantially different identity. Enlarged near features can be intentional, but generated anatomy errors are not required by the effect. Test the face in the actual profile crop before choosing it.

### Can I get a different playful portrait look?

Not on this page; it always makes the same close-up fisheye selfie. For flat graphic color with halftone dots, use [Pop Art Portrait](https://potto.ai/image-templates/pop-art-portrait.md); for bold outlines, use [AI Cartoon Generator](https://potto.ai/image-templates/ai-cartoon-generator.md); for a tidy illustrated profile picture, use Avatar Maker.

### How many credits does a fisheye portrait use?

45 credits per run for one 3:4 PNG at HD, made with Nano Banana Pro. The quote appears on the Generate button before anything is charged.
