Product Walkthrough Video

Show one feature step by step: add screenshots or a link to your product page, and Potto turns them into a narrated walkthrough with captions that you can edit scene by scene before you export an MP4.

From storyboard row to walkthrough frame

The last step of the background remover walkthrough as a storyboard row and as a video frame. The on-screen text comes from the storyboard; the scene layout, icons and motion are added when the scene is rendered.

What the storyboard row holds

Each step of a feature walkthrough video is one storyboard row: the text shown on screen for that step and, when narration is on, the words to say. Potto plans the rows from your link or screenshots in the order of the task, so the last step comes after the action it depends on.

What the frame shows

The same text as short labels in the step's scene, in the colors and logo picked up from the page link. In this sample the upload step shows the background remover page captured from that link, and the later steps use labels and a before-and-after scene; with your own screenshots, any step can show your real interface.

What to check before you export

Read each row of the software walkthrough video against the live product: button names, the order of actions and the result on screen. Edit the on-screen words in the storyboard, swap in a screenshot of the real screen where it helps, and preview again before you export.

Where a feature walkthrough video earns its place

A product walkthrough video answers one question: how do I use this feature? Pick the place where viewers ask it, and let that place decide the frame, the length and how many steps to show.

Help center articles

Put a walkthrough at the top of a how-to article so readers see every step before they read the details. Keep one task per video, use the exact button names from your app, and choose 16:9 for a help center or docs page. When the interface changes, replace the screenshots rather than leaving an outdated walkthrough online.

Feature updates and release notes

When a feature ships or changes, a short software walkthrough video shows where it lives and how to use it now. Open on the screen people already know, show the new steps in order, and end on the result. For an announcement about benefits and availability, a launch video fits better than a walkthrough.

New-user onboarding

Teach the first tasks a new user needs with an app walkthrough video for each feature. A 9:16 frame suits phones and in-app messages, and 1:1 suits a feed or an email. End each walkthrough on the next action the user should take in your product.

How to make a product walkthrough video

Make a feature walkthrough video in three steps with the creator above. Generating and previewing are free, and a credit price appears before you export.

  1. 1. Add a link or screenshots

Paste a public product link, or upload a screenshot of each step in order, up to 8 attachments per project. Choose Feature Walkthrough as the video type and write a sentence on the feature, who the walkthrough is for and the result they should reach.

  2. 2. Check every step

Read the outline and storyboard against your product. For any scene, edit the words on screen and the narration, swap a screenshot, or choose a focus point so the step points at the right control. Keep feature names exactly as your app shows them.

  3. 3. Preview, then export an MP4

Watch the walkthrough in your browser for free. Export a 1080p MP4 at 30 fps in 16:9, 9:16 or 1:1. Credits are charged only when you export, based on length, narration and illustrations.

How Potto builds your product walkthrough video

A screen recording captures every click, pause and mistake. Potto builds the walkthrough from your screens instead: Claude Opus 5.5 plans one feature as a sequence of steps, your screenshots become the visuals, and narration, captions and music are added, so the product walkthrough video plays like an edited tutorial rather than a raw recording.

  1. 01

Start from a public link or your own screenshots

Give Potto a public http or https page and it reads that page plus up to 2 more pages on the same site, picks up your brand name, colors, fonts and logo, and captures the first screen at 1440×900. Pages behind a login cannot be read, so for an app walkthrough video that shows a signed-in screen, upload screenshots instead.

    • Screenshots for signed-in screens

  2. 02

A script that teaches one feature in order

With the Feature Walkthrough video type, Claude Opus 5.5 writes the outline, storyboard and narration script as numbered steps that follow the order of your screens, showing each action and what it changes. Scenes are rendered with Potto's Remotion scene components, with AI-generated illustrations and voiceover.

    Your screenshots as the visuals

A software walkthrough video is only useful if it shows the screen people will see. Potto places your screenshots in the scenes, and for each one you can choose a focus point, swap in a newer capture or replace an illustration, so a step can be corrected without remaking the whole walkthrough.

Narration in 32 languages, with captions

Choose one of 32 narration languages or let Potto detect the language automatically; captions highlight each word as it is spoken. Background music comes from Potto's own library of original tracks, picked to fit the style and length, and you can change it. Listen once for product names and button labels before exporting.

Export your walkthrough in three aspect ratios

Export a 1080p MP4 at 30 fps in 16:9 (1920×1080) for help center and docs pages, 9:16 (1080×1920) for phones and in-app messages, or 1:1 (1080×1080) for a feed. Aspect ratio does not change the price, so pick the frame that fits where your walkthrough will play.

    • 16:9, 9:16 and 1:1 frames
    • Price not affected by aspect ratio

Product Walkthrough Video FAQs

What a product walkthrough video is, how it differs from a demo, and the inputs, edits and prices to know before exporting.

  1. What is a product walkthrough video?

A product walkthrough video is a short video that teaches how to use a product, or one feature of it, by going through the steps on its real interface in order, usually with narration and captions. Viewers follow along and reach the same result in their own app. Potto makes product walkthrough videos from your screenshots or from a link to your product: it plans the steps, places your screens in animated scenes, and adds narration, captions and music. It does not record your screen, and it does not generate a digital presenter.

  2. How is a product walkthrough different from a demo video?

A product walkthrough teaches one feature step by step, while a demo shows what a whole product does and why it matters. A demo answers "should I use this?"; a walkthrough answers "how do I do this?" for someone who already has the product open. In Potto they are separate video types, so pick Feature Walkthrough when the goal is a how-to and Product Demo when the goal is an overview.

  3. What is the Feature Walkthrough video type?

Feature Walkthrough is one of the options in the Video type menu of Potto's creator, next to Auto, Product Demo, Explainer, Product Launch, Article to Video and Data Story. It tells the AI to plan your video as numbered steps for one feature, following the order of the screens you supply. Choose it yourself rather than Auto when you want a feature walkthrough video and not a general overview.

  4. How do I make a product walkthrough video?

Add screenshots of each step, or a public link to your product, in the creator at the top, choose Feature Walkthrough as the video type, and write a sentence about the feature, the audience and the result they should reach. Potto drafts an outline, storyboard, narration and captions; you check each step against your product, preview the walkthrough in your browser for free, and export an MP4.

  5. Should I start from a link or from screenshots?

Use a link for a public page and screenshots for anything behind a login. Potto reads a public http or https page you give it, plus up to 2 more pages on the same site, and captures its first screen at 1440×900. Pages that need a login cannot be read, so for an app walkthrough video of a signed-in screen, upload one screenshot per step in order. A project holds up to 8 attachments, screenshots and documents combined.

  6. Can I upload a screen recording for my walkthrough?

Not at the moment. Potto currently cannot take an existing video, such as a screen recording, for analysis or editing; it makes a new product walkthrough video from screenshots, a public page link or a document. If you already have a recording, export a still for each step and upload those screenshots in order.

  7. Can I edit the steps before exporting?

Yes. Before exporting, you can edit the words on screen and the narration script for each scene of a software walkthrough video. For visuals, you can swap a screenshot, choose its focus point, regenerate an AI illustration or replace it with your own upload. Preview again after each change, and compare every step with the live product.

  8. Does the walkthrough use my brand colors and logo?

Yes, when you select a brand kit or turn on the default brand. Its four brand colors are applied to the visuals, the font is your choice of Inter, Space Grotesk or Bricolage, and your logo appears in opening and closing scenes. When you start from a link, Potto also picks up the brand name, colors, fonts and logo from that page.

  9. Which languages can the narration use?

Narration can use any of 32 languages, or Potto can detect the language automatically. Captions highlight each word as it is spoken. For a software walkthrough video, listen once before exporting for product names, menu labels and abbreviations, since those are the words viewers will look for on their screen.

  10. What formats can I export?

Potto exports every product walkthrough video as an MP4 in 1080p at 30 fps. Choose 16:9 (1920×1080) for help articles, 9:16 (1080×1920) for phones, or 1:1 (1080×1080) for a feed or an email. A 4:5 frame and GIF export are not available.

  11. How many credits does a product walkthrough video cost?

Generating and previewing a walkthrough in your browser is free; credits are charged only when you export. The price depends on video length, narration length and how many AI illustrations you use, and aspect ratio does not change it. For example, a 30-second video with English narration and no illustrations costs 153 credits, and adding 2 illustrations brings it to 199 credits. Each account can start up to 30 video projects and generate up to 60 illustrations a day.
